T O P I C R E V I E Whistory in miniatureThis is a scratchbuilt diorama depicting Sea King SH-3D ser. no. 152711 on her way to pick up the crew of Apollo 11. Helicopter is the Fujimi kit. KSCartistOUTSTANDING! If I built it - the windows would have traces of glue all over them.Super job!NovaRobNice effect on the tail rotor. I assume you customized that.history in miniatureThank you both. The tail rotor is to be replaced by one from Prop Blur, photoetched feathered blades, that are beautiful. If you look at pictures of a heli, the main rotor is usually frozen, the tail rotor is the only one that appears to be turning, which I'm sure you know, I was lazy, and ordered a set, rather than photoetch my own. JakeVery nice... I guess "abandon chute" is a better slogan than "abandon hope." (ha!)apolloprojecktVery nice Steve, I love real water parts that you have made and many details. I have see that you have use a capsule in the water is this the same diorama? And the capsule is from RealSpace? PhilipReminds me of the 1/72 diecast Corgi SH-3 Sea King scale model which became available in summer of 2003. I know U.S. Navy Sea King helicopters had "slogans" written on the belly going from "Hello Dere Charlie Brown" to "Welcome Home," but I did not know about the "Abandon Chute" text!I know they sunk all the decontamination stuff to the bottom of the ocean but "Abandon Chute"?ea757grrl"Old 66" didn't have "ABANDON CHUTE" on the belly. I do know of one SH-3 in a museum that is painted as 66 but incorrectly/speculatively has "ABANDON CHUTE" on the belly. That was probably the source for "ABANDON CHUTE" being put on this model.Having spent more than two decades researching recovery helicopters in general and BuNo 152711 in particular, I'm fairly comfortable in stating that wasn't so on the real thing. Aside from the stenciled "HELLO DERE CHARLIE BROWN" on Apollo 10 or "HAIL COLUMBIA" on Apollo 11, the only markings on the belly were those common to any other fleet-standard SH-3D of the era. — Jodie PeelerMichael ApolloJackThis looks great. I have a big passion for Apollo and the Sea King helicopter. Seeing them together always excites me. I have compiled a large number of OLD 66 Helo pics from my build, and ones found on the internet. You can view them all on the old Yahoo Group called "Helicopter 66" or Helo 66, but I think you may need o join it to view them. As Yahoo has cob webs, not sure if it will even work. Philip quote:Originally posted by ea757grrl:...or "HAIL COLUMBIA" on Apollo 11 Of course Jodie! See "Hail Columbia" text:SARAH (Search and Rescue and Homing) antenna on sponson strut and TV cameras near cargo door must still be added...
Super job!
